Canada's government awards contract for water treatment plant upgrade project
WAINWRIGHT, AB, Canada, Aug. 5, 2009 -- The Government of Canada has awarded a contract for $5.3 million to Graham Construction and Engineering Inc. of Edmonton, Alberta, for the Wainwright Water Treatment Plant Upgrade project at CFB Wainwright. This project will generate approximately 28 direct employment opportunities over the course of construction.
"This $5.3 million contract is the first awarded on the Wainwright Water Treatment Plant Upgrade project," said the Honorable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defense and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. "Not only does this project contribute to local Alberta communities, it also ensures that reliable drinking water continues to be provided for the Base and the town of Wainwright."
The Department of National Defense and Defense Construction Canada conducted an open, fair and transparent competitive process in order to award the contract for the Water Treatment Plant Upgrade project at CFB Wainwright.
The Wainwright Water Treatment Plant Upgrade project will improve the water processing system by installing membranes into the water treatment plant that will ensure the continued supply of safe and reliable drinking water to both the Base and the Town of Wainwright. This project was part of the $40 million in infrastructure upgrades Minister MacKay announced for Alberta in March 2009.
