AWWA: Several SDWA rules expected in 2005

DENVER, Dec. 29, 2004 -- The American Water Works Association (AWWA) pointed out that USEPA's Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) rulemaking schedule for 2005 is very ambitious.

It calls for the second Contaminant Candidate List (CCL2) to be finalized in short order followed by the final Groundwater Rule in May, the proposed second Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR2) in June, the companion Stage 2 Disinfection By-Products (DBPs) and Long-Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment (LT2ESWT) rules in July, the preliminary second regulatory determination (RD2) in August and the final Radon Rule in December.

As detailed in the agency's semiannual regulatory agenda of Dec. 13, the long-term SDWA rulemaking agenda anticipates revisions to the Total Coliform Rule (TCR) with additional distribution system requirements to be proposed in mid-2006. Dates for a proposed primary standard for aldicarbs and a proposed secondary standard for MTBE have yet to be determined...
