Aug. 18, 2014 -- A joint venture between Spain-based water and solutions specialist ACCIONA Agua and Australian water utility solutions provider TRILITY -- known as ATJV -- recently won the prestigious Earth Award from the Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) for its work on the Mundaring Water Treatment Project.
The AU$300-million ($279.8-million) project took place in the district of Mundaring in Western Australia and was implemented by Helena Water, comprising TRILITY, ACCIONA Agua and Lloyds Bank (now Aberdeen Asset Management) under an agreement with the Water Corporation of Western Australia.
Helena Water contracted the design, construction and commissioning of the facilities to ATJV. The joint venture undertook the design in cooperation with engineering group GHD and managed construction of the plant with Brookfield Multiplex, who was the on-site constructor. Following completion of the construction phase, ATJV now operates and maintains the plant and pump station under a 35-year agreement with Helena Water.
The plant, located on a redeveloped 13.6-hectare site 20 miles east of the city of Perth, is the sole source of potable water for around 33,000 rural services, providing a safe and long-term supply of water into Western Australia's Wheatbelt and Goldfields Regions. The utility has a current designed capacity of 165 million liters per day and an ultimate expandable capacity of 240 million liters per day.
According to ATJV Chairman David Taylor, the project had won a number of significant awards throughout the construction period. The project was officially honored at a CCF ceremony in Perth on Friday, Aug. 8.
