CAMBRIDGE, MA, Jan. 19, 2010 -- Oasys, the leading developer of Engineered Osmosis (EO™) systems for energy and resource recovery, today announced that Richard L. Stover, Ph.D. is joining the company as Vice President of Engineering, effective today.
Dr. Stover has over twenty years of research, development and manufacturing engineering experience and has gained international recognition for his expertise in fluid mechanics, mechanical engineering and process design. In his most recent role as Chief Technical Officer for Energy Recovery Inc., Dr. Stover led the successful development and commercial launch of the Pressure Exchanger™, which has since become the leading energy recovery device for seawater reverse osmosis desalination. At Oasys, Dr. Stover will lead the company's engineering, product development and commercialization efforts.
Oasys's patented Engineered Osmosis™ platform utilizes membranes and low-grade heat, instead of electricity, to drive osmosis processes such as desalination. EO™ achieves the same standard of potable quality water produced in reverse osmosis (RO), without the costly high-pressure equipment requirements. The efficient use of heat allows customers to treat water at significantly lower cost, with reduced impact on the environment and reduced carbon dioxide emissions, compared to commercial seawater reverse osmosis systems. EO™ also produces osmotic power, a form of hydroelectric generation, which is integrated with other types of renewable energy, such as geothermal and solar thermal, to reduce cost and provide base-load reliability. Oasys is initially focused on implementing these solutions in areas with water scarcity, such as the Mediterranean region, to create new sources of water and energy with improved resource sustainability.
