PLAINFIELD, Ill., April 23, 2003 -- USFilter has been awarded a contract to provide a multi-million dollar turnkey zero liquid discharge (ZLD) water treatment facility for Calpine Corporation's new 600-MW Rocky Mountain Energy Center (RMEC) near Hudson, Colo.

The water treatment system will soften 4,000 gallons per minute (gpm) of raw water for use as make-up to the cooling towers, and will concentrate 390-gpm of cooling tower blowdown with mechanical vapor compression brine evaporators to reduce the volume to the on-site evaporation ponds. The raw water pretreatment system will include two Contraflo( Clarifiers, a thickener, belt filter and chemical feed systems.

USFilter is also supplying the plant's demineralization equipment, which will provide 400-gpm of purified water. This equipment includes multimedia filtration, reverse osmosis and mixed-bed service deionization.

Scheduled for start-up in December 2003, the turnkey system will include all controls, instrumentation, process piping and a programmable logic controller (PLC).
