WATERLOO, ON, Canada, Dec. 10, 2007 -- The US Department of Energy and Natural Resources Canada have identified water heating as the second largest use of energy in US and Canadian homes, accounting for 20-30% of energy consumption. Any warm water that goes down the main drain carries away valuable energy with it. A proven and practical energy saving technology and product is gaining popularity in Canada, yet struggling for awareness in the US.

The Power-Pipe™ drain-water heat recovery system from RenewABILITY Energy Inc. (REI) can recapture some or most of this valuable energy and use it to preheat cold fresh water going into any water heating system. As a result, the water heater doesn't have to work as hard. The Power-Pipe reduces water heating costs by 25% to 40%. Additionally it reduces greenhouse gases in the average family of four by one ton per year.

The copper Power-Pipe is easy to install and meets strict Energy Star criteria for the New Homes Ontario program and has been independently verified by CANMET - Natural Resources Canada in a July 2007 study. Additionally, thousands of units have been installed in homes, condos, dorms, industrial plants, military facilities, social housing units, etc., in Canada.

The Power Pipe is currently being offer through HomeDepot.ca, Rona and Sears Home Central in Canada. Unfortunately, this proven and affordable product has little or no awareness in the US. While drain water heat recovery is as effective and efficient as an electric heat pump water heater, the US government currently offers no incentive on them, as they do on the electric heat pump.
