New database project seeks input
Nov. 23, 2007 -- A new on-line database provides a collection of actual estimates of environmental flows worldwide. The Environmental Flows (EF) database has been developed by The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and UNEP GEMS/Water Programme as part of the activities of UNESCO Task Force on Eco-Hydrology. The EF database may serve as the information source on how much water is actually prescribed or provided for aquatic ecosystems in different parts of the world and where in the world such allocations are actually made. It can support the development of global EF standards and environmental flow assessment methods. Industry professionals are encouraged to populate the database as part of a global effort to improve the value and usefulness of the tool. The database can be accessed at: http://dw.iwmi.org/ehdb/wetland/index.asp. It is the first of the three at the site.
