SAN MATEO, CA, April 21, 2008 -- eMeter Corporation, a provider of meter data management (MDM) enterprise software to electric, gas, and water utilities, announced today the launch of its IntegratedMDM Program with market-leading Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) companies Cellnet+Hunt, CURRENT Technologies, Eka Systems, Elster Group, Sensus Metering, and Trilliant Inc.
"The purpose of eMeter's IntegratedMDM Program is to enable tighter cooperation and future interoperability between a leading independent MDM and multiple AMI technologies," said Larsh Johnson, eMeter CTO. "With the capabilities of AMI systems evolving so rapidly, this program is designed to provide utilities with assurance that if they select a participating AMI technology, the technology will operate with the EnergyIP™ MDM now and in the future. Utilities selecting AMI solutions can be fully confident that our products will work well together and meet or exceed performance requirements."
The IntegratedMDM program formalizes the long-term working relationship that eMeter has enjoyed with all of these industry leaders. Under the program, each of the AMI companies independently agreed to cooperate in the integration of their AMI technology with the EnergyIP software.
"An independent MDM, one that is committed to remaining open to multiple AMI systems and ensures interoperability, is an important first step in AMI implementation," says Ed White, eMeter Board Member and former Founder and CEO of UTS. "eMeter has the same philosophy that I had when we developed MV-90 at UTS to support communications protocols for all meter manufacturers. This open system approach was the key for the utility industry to move forward with deployment of electronic meters for commercial and industrial customers."
The eMeter IntegratedMDM program was initiated to assure that eMeter and participating AMI technology companies will support utilities' choice of new and exciting AMI capabilities as they are developed. The program consists of the following elements:
1) Interoperability. The parties ensure that eMeter's MDM will interoperate with the participating AMI technologies.
2) Independence of MDM and AMI Systems. The parties recognize the advantage that an open, independent MDM offers utilities who can select from the participant's offerings now and in the future.
3) Integration Planning. The program includes ongoing development cooperation and release planning between eMeter and the AMI companies covering existing and future functionality.
"eMeter will be a true partner to provide an end to end Utility solution with its AMI technology partners," said Cree Edwards, Chairman and CEO of eMeter. "With all of the innovation taking place in the AMI markets, the AMI technology firms each acknowledge the advantage of integrating with an independent MDM platform and the need to integrate future product plans in advance of release."
"We are very pleased to initiate this program with industry leading AMI solutions companies, and utilities selecting a joint solution will enjoy the benefits of our close collaboration and cooperation in integrating our products."
eMeter developed EnergyIP specifically to support the installation, operation, and management of AMI systems and the data they generate. eMeter's software is a multi-vendor AMI integration platform built upon an open Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) incorporating real-time messaging technology. Furthermore, EnergyIP enables support for a wide range of growing Smart Grid functions, ranging from interval metering to Home Area Networks (HANs).
With 20 million meters under contract, eMeter Corporation of San Mateo, California, provides software that enables electric, gas, and water utilities to realize the full benefits of their Advanced Metering and Smart Grid initiatives.
