Hydrogen peroxide

Solvay Chemicals' Interox® Hydrogen Peroxide is used to control sulfide odors either in the aeration basin or polishing ponds. In sewage treatment, it can control sulfide and reduce corrosion throughout the treatment system, including rising mains and in the treatment plant itself. Hydrogen peroxide reaction products are environmentally compatible, consisting of simply water and oxygen.

Cover systems

GTI's structurally supported cover system consists of a retractable sheet of high strength, UV protected, coated fabric tensioned across a series of low profile aluminum arches which span a tank opening. Applications include odor control, blocking sunlight, temperature control, or preventing debris from entering the tank. The fabric cover is sufficiently air tight to capture odorous offgas for removal by a ventilation system, yet it can be detached on three sides and retracted to expose the tank contents for inspection or maintenance.

Bioscrubber

The Duall BIO-PRO™ is an environmentally friendly, low-profile bioscrubber. Gaseous pollutants are absorbed then biodegraded by bacteria immobilized as fixed films on multiple biomedia cassettes. Recirculation of microorganisms present in the recycle liquid continuously scours the biobeds and creates virtually no significant pH gradient, thus providing a homogenous acidic pH traversing the first biobed and a neutral pH in the second.

Wet scrubber systems

Severn Trent Services offers the EST™ Wet Odor Control Scrubber Systems in multi-stage and low-profile construction to treat malodorous gases emanating from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities. The Type "SOS" - SideWinder Odor Scrubber is a low profile multistage gas absorption system for capacities to 20,000 cfm. The system treats odors emanating from wastewater treatment plants, composting sites and other industrial sites that generate odors. Caustic and bleach solutions treat hydrogen sulfide and other sulfur bearing compounds.

H2S monitoring

The Model Q45S odor monitoring system from Analytical Technology Inc. uses a specially designed "wet H2S sensor" and can measure concentrations up to 200 ppm or very low levels down to 0.5 ppm. The monitor provides a large LCD display showing concentration with a second display line to show other status information. Two 5 amp alarm relays are offered along with a 4-20 mA signal.

Gas monitor, scrubber controller

Vapex Sentinel systems deliver operational savings for wet chemistry odor-control scrubbers with significant reductions in chemical usage (up to 50 percent), and reduced scrubber maintenance by limiting the scaling effect of chemicals on the scrubber media. The system continuously monitors the internal gas passing through the scrubber and sends control signals to regulate chemical pump additions. Based on sensor data points, the system can either directly control the feed pumps metering chemicals into the scrubbers, or interface with the pump control system to provide the appropriate amount of chemicals.

Odor monitoring

OdoWatch®, available through N.A. Water systems, provides continuous, real-time odor monitoring at municipal wastewater treatment plants. The system automatically alerts operators to the need for adjustments to prevent odor complaints. The electronic nose transmits data to a central control unit that uses meteorological data to perform real-time dispersion modeling and display the results as a color-coded plume overlaid on a map of the site.

Odor, corrosion control

The ECO2 SuperOxygenation technology from Eco Oxygen Technologies eliminates the formation of hydrogen sulfide using a device called the SuperOxygenation Cone. Pure oxygen is dissolved into the wastewater to prevent the formation of hydrogen sulfide by keeping the pipeline aerobic. As hydrogen sulfide is eliminated, the "rotten egg" odor associated with the gas is eliminated and no sulfuric acid is formed to corrode conveyance structures.
