EPA accepts Isolux for National Arsenic Treatment Demonstration Project

FLEMINGTON, NJ, Jan. 13, 2005 -- Isolux Technologies and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have announced that the company has been awarded a full-scale demonstration site for its arsenic removal technology for municipal drinking water systems. Isolux is a division of Magnesium Elektron Inc. (MEI), a leading supplier of technically advanced materials and treatment systems for the removal of arsenic and other heavy metals from water. The location for full-scale system installation is Tehachapi, Calif., at the Golden Hills Community Services District.

The new federal drinking water standard for arsenic of 10 parts per billion (ppb) becomes effective in January 2006. In an effort to provide for the development of more cost-effective technologies as well as technical assistance to small systems the EPA has initiated several programs including the National Arsenic Treatment Demonstration Project. The demonstration program will seek to validate the effectiveness, efficiency, simplicity and cost-effectiveness of the Isolux Technology for application in small community water systems.

"With the January '06 compliance date nearly a year away, small water systems across the country are beginning to wrestle with the issues of arsenic treatment," said Jim Knoll, the company business manager.
