China Blue Star Membrane Technology Co. will install FILMTEC™ reverse osmosis (RO) elements, manufactured by the Dow Chemical Company, in an advanced wastewater reclamation project in TaiYuan ShanXi province. The Chinese government granted approval to Shanxi Taiyaun Steel Company to use national funds to build a completely new US$ 600-million stainless steel production with high purity water treatment needs.

The new treatment facility is located in an area of China that is experiencing severe water shortages. The reclaimed wastewater is a mixture of tertiary treated sewage and industrial wastewater from the steel plant. The capacity of the first pass RO system is 1,400 m3/hr at a temperature of 15ºC. Six trains in the first pass system will be included, each with a capacity of 233 m3/hr.
