Auto Plant Plans New UF, MBR System

Dynatec Systems Inc. has received an order and is commissioning a large 120,000 gpd ultra-filtration (UF) system followed by a membrane bioreactor (MBR) for a major automotive manufacturer to completely upgrade an existing waste treatment facility.

The facility incorporated a batch chemical treatment process that treated wastewater from an engine manufacturing plant. The upgrade project was initiated to meet existing discharge limits, proposed MP&M regulations and reduce organic load as requested by the local POTW.

In order to comply with these requirements, the new process was designed to remove oil, grease, heavy metals, BOD5, TKN and TSS. Dynatec's design incorporates a UF system followed by an MBR to produce high quality water for discharge to the sanitary sewer. The upgraded waste treatment process will reliably produce higher quality effluent at a lower cost.

The entire project is being completed within the existing waste treatment area. Process equipment including tanks, pumps, piping, valves and controls from the existing process that can be incorporated into the new system are being used in order to minimize capital cost.

By custom designing the equipment to fit an existing space, Dynatec was able to reduce the overall capital expense dramatically by eliminating the need for a new facility.

The process will produce water that will exceed the proposed MP&M discharge standards scheduled to be promulgated in December of 2002 as well as the local POTW restrictions on organic loading.

Dynatec Systems, Inc. is an applications and systems engineering company with over 500 membrane-based industrial wastewater treatment systems installed in the US since 1977. The company specializes in the use of membrane technologies to solve difficult industrial waste treatment problems. It manages turnkey projects including installation and general contracting as required.
