• New production line planned to meet fast-growing demand for reverse osmosis elements

WILMINGTON, MA, April 21, 2008 -- Koch Membrane Systems Inc. (KMS), a world-class developer and manufacturer of innovative membranes and membrane filtration systems, announces its investment in a new production line at its Wilmington, Mass. facility that will more than double manufacturing capacity for its reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) elements. According to company president, David H. Koch, "The new production capability is required to meet the increasing market demand for RO membranes and systems, including the 18" diameter x 61" long MegaMagnum® element."

The planned production line will supplement the existing RO element production lines at the company's manufacturing facility in San Diego, Calif. and is scheduled to be fully operational in mid-2009.

The MegaMagnum element, the world's largest spiral-wound reverse osmosis element, is becoming the standard for large-scale industrial and municipal reverse osmosis and nanofiltration applications. Applications include brackish water desalination, removal of inorganic contaminates (e.g., nitrates, arsenic and radium), softening, organic removal, water reuse, high-quality process water production and wastewater recycling. Each MegaMagnum element has between 7 and 8 times the effective membrane area of a conventional 8" diameter x 40" long element.

Compared to racks with standard 8-inch elements, racks of MegaMagnum elements require only half of the floor space and use one-fifth the number of connections and O-rings, reducing the cost, footprint, and installation time of water treatment systems.

Koch Membrane Systems Inc. is a designer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art membrane cartridges and elements, as well as complete membrane systems.
