Westin Engineering awarded $7.8 million controls contract by Chicago
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA, Jan. 5, 2006 -- Westin Engineering, Inc. has been awarded a $7.8 Million contract for a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system by the City of Chicago, Department of Water Management (DWM).
The city delivers nearly a billion gallons of drinking water a day to more than 8 million residents of Chicago and 124 suburbs. The new SCADA system will consolidate distribution operations at the Jardine Water Purification Plant -- one of the world's largest water treatment plants. The system includes large pumping stations, remote system pressure points and valve control stations.
"Westin has a long commitment to serving the city of Chicago's technology needs related to both water and wastewater," said Doug Harp, Westin president and CEO. "We are pleased to work with the City to deliver a state-of-the-art control system that will set the bar for technical excellence in the water industry."
The nearly four-year project will replace a previous generation of technology with a modern system comprised of open-architecture, state-of-the-art components. The project will increase reliability and communication, improve operational reporting, and minimize maintenance costs.
Westin is the prime contractor coordinating a Chicago-based team including Divane Bros. Electric Company; Allan Integrated Control Systems (AICS); System Development Integration (SDI); Spectrum Engineering Inc.; and General Energy Corp. Inc. (GEC). In addition, Tri-Star Supply Inc. and Branscombe Cable Co. will supply equipment and materials. Westin will manage the project from its office in downtown Chicago.
