N. ANDOVER, MA, Oct. 4, 2004 (PRNewswire) -- DYMEC Inc. has introduced the DynaStar 1500 Industrial Frame Router (DS1500-IFR), a purpose-built data networking platform designed to extend monitoring, control and automation networks in industrially harsh environments.

A "DYMEC Hardened" product, the DS1500-IFR provides a robust and reliable alternative to non-hardened commercial switches, routers, terminal servers and related network access equipment used in power utility substations, oil refining and petrochemical plants, water & wastewater processing sites and transportation systems.

Functionally, DYMEC's Industrial Frame Router integrates five networking functions onto one robust platform, eliminating multiple points of failure and reducing hardware and related deployment costs. "Our goal was to deliver our legendary hardening specifications and integrated networking features in a package that would meet the cost and connectivity requirements for most industrial sites," said Rob Otto, DYMEC's senior product marketing manager.

In addition to supporting Ethernet-enabled automation, the DS1500-IFR supports multiple Serial protocols, allowing customers to use one networking platform to migrate data streams from different field devices onto a shared data network. "IP Convergence offers a compelling solution that leverages an application-neutral IP infrastructure for all applications and devices on a network, and is a key strategy for many of our customers. The DS1500-IFR delivers a secure, flexible and reliable path for its implementation," said John Shaw, CEO of DYMEC.

The Industrial Frame Router also features DYMEC's Virtual Private Line (VPL) direct-to-frame technology. VPL offers a complementary alternative to IP Convergence for applications where IP encapsulation of Serial data streams is not an efficient or viable solution. VPL creates transparent end-to-end connections for specific Serial data streams without adding the overhead and delays associated with IP encapsulation. VPL technology delivers superior reliability and performance by mapping Serial data streams directly to frame relay connections without IP encapsulation. Mr. Shaw added, "VPL technology provides much needed flexibility to prioritize critical Serial data traffic and prevent unacceptable end-to-end delays."
