Standard polywrap creates a barrier between the surface of the pipe and corrosive soil. VB3™ Enhanced Polyethylene takes this a few steps further by actually fighting corrosion.
VB3™ Enhanced Polyethylene ductile iron pipe wrap is just what its name says it is: a much more enhanced version of an already very successful anti-corrosion product. It is a three-layer, co-extruded, linear, low-density film fused together to make a single thickness no less than 8 mils. The inside surface of the wrap is infused with a blend of antimicrobial biocide to mitigate microbiologically influenced corrosion and a volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI) to control galvanic corrosion.
Does this actually work and make a difference? AA Thread tested its VB3™ Enhanced Polyethylene alongside a standard polywrap to demonstrate its effectiveness. Using test method ASTM E2180, AA Thread not only found that its wrap reduced the amount of bacteria/microorganism growth by over 99 percent but also observed that the standard wrap had a slight increase in bacteria/microorganisms after the testing was done.
VB3™ Enhanced Polyethylene ductile iron pipe wrap provides corrosion protection for pipes of all sizes.
The company also tested VCI effectiveness using test method BSI IEC 68-2-30. Metal cards were placed in jars with a corrosive solution for 7 days (7 cycles). The metal cards with the VB3™ Enhanced Polyethylene film showed no signs of corrosion at the end of the testing. The cards without the VB3™ Enhanced Polyethylene film showed corrosion 3 days (3 cycles) into the testing. WW
