Optimizing pretreatment systems (clarifiers, filters, etc.) is the key to maintaining performance of downstream equipment such as reverse osmosis, demineralizers, and boilers. Chemtrac's streaming current monitors help optimize the addition of coagulants prior to filtration. The particle counter, Model PC2400D, and particle monitor, Model PM2500, provides a level of on-line, continuous, monitoring not achievable with SDI (silt density index), or turbidity measurement. The counter/monitor use laser and LED, light extinction/fluctuation methods which can detect a few parts per billion (ppb) of particulates as small as 1 micron. The on-line, flow through sensors eliminate sampling/testing variances often encountered in manual, SDI or Millipore analyses. Sensors can be multiplexed to provide real-time monitoring of filters, condensates, or any other component of the pretreatment/feedwater system.

Hach introduces the new Portable Hach LDO™ HQ10 Dissolved Oxygen Meter and HQ20 Dissolved Oxygen/ pH/mV Meter. Both systems apply a unique sensor material that luminesces more quickly to an internal stimulating light-emitting diode (LED) when oxygen is present. This breakthrough methodology eliminates deteriorating electrodes, membranes and electrolyte solutions of traditional polarographic or galvanic sensor systems. The result – proven by process control operators – is fast and accurate DO measurement with significantly reduced maintenance.

PumpSmart Control Solutions introduces the PumpSmart Model 200 Version 4.0, a major addition to the award-winning PumpSmart product line. This is a microprocessor-based variable speed drive programmed specifically for centrifugal pumps up to 700 HP. Improvements include: a patent-pending Torque Pump Protect (TPP) algorithm feature, MultiVariable Control radio controller and patented pump wear monitor. The TPP monitors pump loads to determine operational conditions such as running below minimum flow, dry running and run-out conditions and compensates for speed changes and mechanical losses common on smaller pumps with mechanical seals. This advanced pump protection is without need for more sensors and can be used on all operating macros, including speed control and multi-pump processes.
