Detroit WWTP selects Evoqua to support heavy load requirements

Evoqua to supply more than 19 miles of its Envirex High-Strength Loop Chain to Detroit WWTP, one of the largest treatment plants in the U.S.

PITTSBURGH & DETROIT, JANUARY 5, 2017 -- Evoqua Water Technologies' Envirex® high-strength loop chain has been selected to meet the heavy load and performance requirements of the Great Lakes Water Authority's (GLWA) Detroit, Mi., wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Evoqua worked closely with its sales representative, Peterson and Matz Inc., on this major facility upgrade project.

The Detroit WWTP is one of the largest wastewater treatment plants in the United States, treating approximately 650 million gallons per day. The City of Detroit was planning to replace molded non-metallic collector chains that had been installed in its 12 rectangular clarifiers. The plant had experienced issues with wear, overloading, and downtime due to the age of the existing clarifier equipment. The GLWA selected the Envirex HS730 high strength loop chain based on its ability to handle heavy load requirements with less wear and lower maintenance.

Evoqua's Municipal division will supply 102,336 feet -- or more than 19 miles -- of Envirex HS730 Loop Chain for the 12 Primary rectangular clarifier basins. Each basin consists of seven 16-foot wide by 270-foot long longitudinal collector mechanisms, a skimmer mechanism and cross collector mechanism. The Envirex HS730 Loop Chain is constructed from composite materials suitable for corrosive environments, long collectors and/or heavy duty applications. It offers performance and strength characteristics closely related to cast and stainless steel chains at a fraction of the weight for ease of handling and low maintenance.

Evoqua is the pioneer of non-metallic chain components with more than 100 years of experience through its family of Envirex branded products. For more information, visit www.evoqua.com/envirex.
