DUBUQUE, IA, April 28, 2005 -- Four divisions of the city of Santa Barbara, Calif., went live with CarteGraph software on Jan. 3, 2005. In the first week, the city was turned upside down with two strong storms flooding the area and testing its new system. In the first month of using the program, the city had 839 work requests and 536 work orders and closed 278 work orders.

Santa Barbara's parking, street operations, water distribution and wastewater division all implemented CarteGraph software, including MAPdirector for ArcGIS. CarteGraph assisted the city with creating an automatic process for its GIS system, allowing the GIS staff to automatically update CarteGraph with the latest asset information from the GIS database. This allows the different divisions to record maintenance activity to the assets, and display it on maps reports via CarteGraph.

"The implementation went very well and has given us more credibility," commented Patricia Eble, Public Works GIS Coordinator for the City of Santa Barbara. "It has been an interesting process figuring out what works for us. I have enjoyed teaching others how easy and flexible the software is."

The Santa Barbara Airport and the Park and Recreation divisions are now interested in implementing the CarteGraph system.
