NEW YORK, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Two of Project Finance magazine's top "Deals of the Year" for 2004 featured management consulting and engineering firm R.W. Beck, Inc., as independent engineer.

The winning projects were: "North America Refinancing Deal of the Year" for the CalGen refinancing, and "North America Renewables Deal of the Year" for the Shell Three Winds Project. Both projects were honored at the Sixth Annual Project Finance Deals of the Year Awards, March 9 at the New York Palace Hotel in New York City.

The CalGen refinancing project involved 14 gas-fired power plants located in eight states and aggregating 9,820MW of capacity, for which R.W. Beck provided independent engineering services.

According to Bill Reynolds, a professional engineer and the company's project manager for the CalGen refinancing, "I'm pleased R.W. Beck had the opportunity to support this refinancing, which featured an aggressive schedule and a large number of assets."

The Shell Three Winds Project included financing of three operating wind power plants, ranging in size from about 40-60 MW, in California and Wyoming. R.W. Beck, along with Global Energy Concepts, a leading wind energy engineering and consulting firm, provided independent engineering services, while Fortis Capital Corp. served as the lead financial arranger.

Dave Patton, a professional engineer and R.W. Beck's project manager for the Shell Three Winds Project says, "We took great pride in supporting the project sponsors and financial community in the financing of this large portfolio deal."

R.W. Beck's independent engineering reviews included the technical, environmental and economic aspects of each project.

Project Finance (www.projectfinancemagazine.com), a trade journal for the financial community, has honored the most successful projects from around the globe for six years, and this is the fourth consecutive year R.W. Beck has been involved with award-winning projects.

Founded more than 60 years ago, R.W. Beck (www.rwbeck.com) is a technically based management consulting and engineering firm providing services to both public and private sectors in the areas of energy and water/waste resources.
