Empire, Colorado, has informed residents of possible interruptions to their water service.
According to the town’s Drinking Water Warning, a boil order is now in place and the town’s treatment plant is struggling to meet demand.
“We have a leak in the distribution which is resulting in a significant loss of pressure in the drinking water system,” stated the press release. “The distribution leak in combination with seasonally low flow of the town’s source water is preventing the town’s water treatment facility from being able to produce enough water to meet system demands.”
So far, crews are working to determine the location of the leak and to make repairs.
According to officials, the facility's water supply, Madd Creek, is too low because of freezing conditions and the ongoing suspected water leak, reported The Denver Channel. In the meantime, the town is working to increase the water intake at the source and supplement water into the plant.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) officially issued a boil order for the town Mar. 20.
A few residents and businesses were reporting no running water, so these places are closed indefinitely, reported The Denver Channel.
The town has ordered a 1,000-gallon water tanker for residents to fill containers at Theobald Park, which will be available every day starting Mar. 20 during business hours, reported the town’s Drinking Water Warning. Crews also moved a 2,000-gallon tanker into the Empire Fire Station.
People will need to bring their own containers to fill from the water tanker.
Residents can also pick up gallon jugs of water from Town Hall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Those unable to go to Theobold Park should call or email the Town Hall at 303.569.2978 or [email protected]. Officials asked for patience as there will be delays due to limited staff.
The town anticipates resolving the problem by Mar. 25. For more information, please contact Wendy Koch at [email protected] or 303.994.7682, or 30 E Park Ave Empire CO 80438.
