Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics will soon begin a rebate program to reimburse homeowners in Bedford, New Hampshire who installed Saint-Gobain’s point-of-entry treatment (POET) systems at their property, according to a press release from the Town of Bedford.
The company would provide a one-time rebate of up to $5,000 to eligible property owners who installed a POET system to treat drinking water for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The approved applicants would also be eligible for inclusion in Saint-Gobain’s future POET maintenance program.
The rebate is related to a consent decree between Saint-Gobain and the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES).
The company has previously manufactured products that contained PFAS. After NDHES found that many nearby water supply wells exceeded the state’s groundwater quality standards for PFAS, the two entities entered a consent decree. The agreement identifies remedies for the groundwater contamination in key affected areas.
To be eligible for the rebate, an application must have:
- Documentation of POET installation from September 30, 2019 through May 10, 2023
- A dated receipt for the system’s installation
- Documentation proving an exceedance of New Hampshire’s PFAS drinking water standards prior to installation
- Documentation of a drinking water sample after installation, proving the effectiveness of the POET system to treat PFAS
- The property must also be located within the affected area defined by the 2018 consent decree
- The property must be eligible for a POET system as part of Saint-Gobain’s POET installation program, as defined in a 2022 consent decree with NH DES; and
- Consent to an inspection by Saint-Gobain’s POET installation contractor to verify that the installed POET meets program requirements and can be included in its POET maintenance program.
The rebate program will open for applications on July 1st, 2023, and will be coordinated by Saint-Gobain’s partner, WSP Golder. To be notified when applications are available, homeowners were direct to email [email protected] or call (800) 742-8498.
