In June of 2019, the town of Oneida, Tennessee was experiencing an impossible situation. Caught between increasing state regulations, aging infrastructure and limited resources, Oneida was experiencing high rates of water loss with few options for how to solve the problem.
Just how big an issue did Oneida have on their hands? For starters, they were facing 51% water loss. Each year, Oneida produces 400 million gallons of water a year, which means that over 200 million gallons a year were lost to leaks. This cost the city $186,000 annually and caused the water treatment plant to operate on 12- to 14-hour days to keep up with demand.
