CALGARY, Canada, Feb. 17, 2005 -- Telvent, a global specialist in real-time information technology, has been selected by the Marin Municipal Water District of Corte Madera, Calif., to upgrade its legacy clean water distribution SCADA system. Telvent will install its latest technology OASyS DNA SCADA Suite along with advanced Water Management Applications in a distributed configuration at the Main Control Center and its four treatment plants.

Marin operates a water treatment and distribution system serving a population of approximately 200,000, located in the 520 square miles (840 square kilometers) of Marin County, and delivering 92% of its water to residential and 8% to commercial customers. Water is obtained from reservoirs on Mount Tamalpais, in West Marin, and from the Russian River, and distributed within the population zones through hilltop storage tanks. Telvent's OASyS DNA system and advanced applications will assist Marin with the supply, transportation and delivery of this precious resource to its customers.

The contract award is the result of a co-engineering initiative undertaken between Marin and Telvent, which involved an evaluation of the existing system and current operating applications against the OASyS DNA upgrade suite. From this assessment, operational and migration issues were identified and addressed, including the migration of databases, reporting and displays, as well as enhancement of Marin's system security, architecture and configuration. According to Manuel Sánchez Ortega, President of Telvent, "the OASyS DNA security model was a deciding factor in Marin's selection of Telvent. OASyS DNA offers secure enterprise integration to assist with Marin's day-to-day operations."

Marin independently conducted further analysis into upgrade alternatives, and was able to quantify cost savings resulting from the availability of database and display conversion tools, the ability to replicate SCADA system functionality and presentation, and the opportunity to minimize training requirements and learning curves. Sánchez added, "This upgraded control, automation and information management system will facilitate the operation of Marin's assets, and provide users at all levels of the company with current operational information. These improvements were added to the cost savings in order to justity this upgrade project with Telvent.
