Collier County, located in Naples, Fla., has awarded a three-year contract to Severn Trent-Avatar Utility Services, LLC., for the installation of 20,000 Automatic Meter Readers (AMR). Severn Trent will install the AMRs in support of the County's efforts to improve the speed and accuracy of water meter readings.
Severn Trent will install both new and retro-fit equipment depending upon the age of the existing water meters.
"Meters less than five years old will be retro-fit with an encoder and Electronic Remote Transmitters (ERT), while those older than five years will be completely replaced with new meters equipped with encoders and ERTs that are installed on the meter box," said Severn Trent's Regional Business Development Manager Ken Irvin. "To date, we've installed 5,000 and are on schedule."
For the first phase of the contract, meters ranging in size from 5/8-inch to 2-inches are being replaced or upgraded. An additional phase requested by Collier County will include the installation of 1,000 AMRs on its wastewater reuse system that serves golf courses and public green spaces throughout the county.
Located 15 miles south of Fort Myers, Fla., Collier County is the second-fastest growing urban area in the U.S. With a permanent population of over a quarter of a million, the number of people increases by over 40 percent during tourist season.
