PASADENA, Calif., Feb. 20, 2002 -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. announced today that a subsidiary company and its joint venture partner, MWH Americas, Inc., were selected by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) for its Program Management Services contract.
The base contract is for five years at $25 million. The contract also has a five-year option period bringing the total estimated value at $50 million, with an effective date of February 14, 2002.
The joint venture will provide integrated program management support staff to SFWMD, and will assist with the long-term restoration of the Everglades, one of the nation's most significant ecosystems and water resources. The entire Everglades restoration is estimated to cost approximately $7.8 billion, and will take place over the next 20-30 years.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Michael Higgins stated, "The Everglades is one of the world's key water resources, and we are excited to work with our joint venture partner MWH on this world-renowned ecosystem restoration program. We believe this will allow us to build upon our world-class program management expertise, and will allow us to continue our long-term relationship with MWH and the District. This long-term contract will have many technical and programmatic challenges, and we look forward to working in partnership with the SFWMD to make this contract a world model for successful ecosystem restoration."
