BALTIMORE, MD, June 22, 2011 -- A new community development project that will feature unique green elements, is currently underway in Baltimore City.
The 63-acre Uplands Redevelopment will offer approximately 761 dwelling-units of a variety of housing types on a former garden apartment-townhouse site in West Baltimore, MD. The project is one of the largest urban infill projects -- the use of land for redevelopment within a built-up area -- currently under construction on the East Coast.
The green infrastructure project features 'green alleys' which look identical to standard concrete alleys but feature porous paving that allows for improved infiltration of stormwater runoff. Ultimately, the green alleys will help improve water quality, reduce flooding and ponding throughout the development, and will promote better groundwater recharge.
STV provided a range of planning and design services for the project, including taking a lead role in the entitlement process, using the preliminary master plan from the architects and obtaining approval for a Planned Unit Development for the master plan; as well as designing the infrastructure for the site.
