NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 23, 2009 -- Turner Construction Company, the nation's largest builder of Green buildings, has completed the largest privately-owned vegetative roof in the state of Kentucky for the American Life and Accident Insurance Company of Kentucky atop the firm's Mies van der Rohe designed corporate headquarters building in Louisville.

Turner served as the original builder of the American Life and Accident Insurance Company's corporate headquarters building in 1974. Turner continued to provide its construction services for the building with multiple tenet fit-outs. The construction of the Green roof and replacement of all major mechanical systems in the building marks the continuation of a more than 36 year relationship between Turner and the American Life and Accident Insurance Company of Kentucky.

Turner's work on the Green Roof project included the installation of native species sedum mats with three test beds provided by Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. The test beds are part of a study by Bernheim to identify plants that will excel as living roofs in the Midwest and may even help preserve indigenous plants by placing them on Green Roofs. The roof will also reduce stormwater runoff and will reduce heating and cooling needs.

Turner also served as the construction manager of the interior fit-outs and renovations of multiple floors within the facility, including the installation of energy-efficient HVAC equipment, lighting and energy management systems.

"Turner is proud to support American Life and Accident Insurance Company's Chairman and CEO Nana Lampton's forward-thinking plan to reduce the carbon footprint of this iconic Louisville landmark," said Ken Jones, Vice President and General Manager of Turner's Cincinnati and Kentucky operations.
