AZUSA, CA, Apr. 14, 2009 -- Rain Bird Corporation is giving both amateur and experienced filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their creative talents in the 2009 Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition. Now accepting entries, the competition uses the power of film to increase awareness of the need for effective, efficient and responsible water use.

The Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition is open to all narrative, documentary, animated or experimental short films (one to ten minutes in actual or excerpted run time) that explore methods and ideas to responsibly manage and use the earth's most precious resource. From the general field of entries, two winners will be announced, with a $6,000 prize for the Jury Award and a $3,000 for the Audience Choice Award.

Now in its third year, the Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition has also added an exciting new awards category to the mix. Co-sponsored by Questex Media Group, the new Green Industry Award gives landscape contractors, landscape architects, specifiers, golf course superintendents and all professionals who design, install or maintain green spaces a special opportunity to showcase their film-making abilities. Entries in this category should also focus on creative ways to use water wisely, with the winner receiving a $6,000 prize.

"Green industry professionals deal with the issue of water conservation out in the field almost every single day," said Jennifer Riley-Chetwynd, Rain Bird's corporate brand manager. "With the Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition's new Green Industry Award, we hope to spotlight their unique perspectives on how to ensure that enough water is available both now and for future generations."

A judging panel consisting of film and water management experts will review the films and choose finalists from the field of entries. Finalists will be flown to Los Angeles, California where they will be guests at a formal screening hosted by David Sutera, director of the 2008 Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition's winning film, Glass Half Full. The Jury Award, Audience Choice Award and Green Industry Award winners will be announced following a screening of the finalists' films and a roundtable discussion with the filmmakers and judges.

Filmmakers must submit all entries to the Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition electronically as a .mov, .wmv, .avi or .mpg file to the competition's official website. Entries must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on August 15, 2009 for consideration.
