DAYTON, OH, Dec. 5, 2008 -- Woolpert recently won a Merit Award from the Virginia Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for its role in the Loudoun County, Virginia, Stormwater Management Program.

Woolpert mapped the county's stormwater infrastructure and created a GPS-based field inventory to implement a system capable of tracking pollutants that infiltrate the system in a timely manner so they can be eliminated as quickly as possible.

Under the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) mandate, Loudoun County was required to map out its existing stormwater infrastructure. To fulfill this obligation the county hired Woolpert to develop a stormwater management program.

"Using proprietary software, SmartSurveyor™, Woolpert was able to provide Loudoun County with an innovative, cost-efficient and timely solution to meet and exceed the various requirements mandated by NPDES," said Tom Mochty, Woolpert senior vice president and survey director.

The ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) recognizes outstanding projects in seven different categories. Projects recognized on the state level are eligible to compete for national recognition. Woolpert received the Merit Award for the Loudoun County project under the category Environmental, Water and Water Resources, Wastewater.

Woolpert Inc. provides professional engineering, architecture, planning, enterprise information management, water management, surveying, and photogrammetry and remote sensing services to clients in the public and private sectors.
