Sacramento, Calif. - January 18, 2002 - Hansen Information Technologies announced today that Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) in Nova Scotia, Canada, has selected Hansen's Call Center, Public Works, Permitting, and Code Enforcement solutions to improve planning, data integration, decision-making and service delivery at various levels within the municipality.
The system will be available for use throughout the municipality at various offices and storefronts. The Hansen solution was selected through a competitive bid process and includes software licensing, project management, data conversion, interface development and training.
Hansen partnered with Dillon Consulting, a Canadian-owned engineering consulting organization, through their Atlantic branch in Halifax, for this project. "We need an information system that can integrate our various existing databases into a single source of corporate data that is accessible across all business units," said George McLellan, acting Chief Administrative Officer at the Municipality. "We believe Hansen is the best product to meet that need."
HRM will be replacing a number of manual record keeping, stand-alone, and server-based systems with the Hansen solution to improve building and subdivision permitting processes, public works infrastructure management, by-law enforcement, and call center operations. Future considerations include using mobile devices for accessing the system in the field.
HRM issues over 10,000 building-related permits per year, performs over 20,000 associated inspections, creates 2,000 new lot records, investigates 1,200 land use compliance complaints, and responds to over 4,000 by-law enforcement complaints. They are also responsible for maintaining 913 miles of roadway, 1,000 miles of curb, 429 miles of sidewalk, 715 miles of sanitary sewer system, 398 miles of storm drainage system for residential, commercial and industrial customers, 16,000 manholes, and 17,000 catch basins.
In addition, HRM responds to nearly 950,000 citizen requests per year. The Hansen system will create an integrated information system that will use this data to improve business processes and decision support within HRM. HRM's new system will be rolled out in phases and will be used by over 200 employees after fully implemented. The first phase of the project is currently underway, with implementation expected over the next 6-8 months.
