Water and wastewater professionals from across the globe will convene in Las Vegas next month for the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) 137th Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE18). The conference will take place June 12-14 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

One of the leading events in the water industry, the program will bring together thousands of leaders in drinking water, wastewater, stormwater and water reuse to network and learn together during educational workshops, sessions and facility tours.

More than 450 exhibitors will showcase their latest products and services, giving conference attendees the chance to meet with multiple vendors under one roof (for a sneak peek at what will be on display, see our ACE Exhibitor Showcase on the following pages).

This year’s Opening General Session features NPR correspondent and award-winning journalist Ira Flatow. Flatow is the host of NPR’s “Science Friday,” a call-in radio program and podcast that connects 2 million weekly listeners with scientists for informative discussions about science, technology, health, space, and the environment. Flatow will speak Tuesday, June 12, at 8:30 a.m.

On Wednesday, June 14 at 11:15 a.m., the Water Utilities Issues Forum will address the challenge of affordability, with speakers Rick Giardina, executive vice president of Raftelis, and Manny Teodoro, associate professor at Texas A&M University. Moderated by AWWA CEO David LaFrance, this session will provide the opportunity for audience members to pose questions about the most important and challenging issues they face when it comes to affordability.

If you’re looking for a little excitement, don’t miss the various competitions on tap at ACE, including: Pipe Tapping (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday), Meter Madness (Tuesday), Hydrant Hysteria (Wednesday and Thursday), World Water Cup of Drilling and Tapping (Tuesday), and Water Taste Test Competitions (Wednesday). See the official ACE18 program for times.

Facility tours are also available for an additional fee. Wednesday options include the Hoover Dam, a look behind the scenes at the Bellagio Fountains, MGM Grand’s sustainability program, Aquatic life support systems at the Mirage Resort’s Secret Garden, and a Dolphin Habitat and Shark Reef Aquarium tour at Mandalay Bay.
