inslow Township, the largest town in Camden County, N.J, runs its own in-house water and sewer utility. The pumps installed in the two pumps stations -- Ivy Hall and Victoria Manor -- often clogged and experienced reliability issues. Customer callout time and overtime to service these stations were very high as a result. And further, even partially clogged pumps greatly reduced energy efficiency. The customer required strong local service support and superior product technology to solve the problem, so the Winslow Township sought relief from its clog-prone, unreliable pumps with a submersible sewage pumping solution from Sulzer Pumps Solutions.

Sulzer's manufacturing site in Easley, S.C., offers a top-notch test facility for submersible wastewater pumps.

The Solution

Sulzer supported Winslow in the upgrade and expansion of its municipal water and sewer system by supplying Ivy Hall and Victoria Manor with reliable submersible sewage pumps type ABS XFP. These pumps handled the tough solids better than the clog-prone pumps they'd had.

To better serve its customers locally, Sulzer invested in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the city of Easley, S.C., for configuration and testing of submersible wastewater pumps.

Sulzer submersible sewage pump type ABS XFP provides reliable, economical pumping of heavily polluted sewage in commercial, industrial and municipal applications.

The XFP pumps benefit from significantly efficient Premium Efficiency IE3 motors and hydraulics, substantially reducing downtime and energy consumption.

The Result

The Sulzer pumps, using Contrablock Plus impellers, immediately solved the clogging issue. In fact, Winslow Township has not experienced any clogging with these pumps in over a year of service. In addition, maintenance personnel have had more time to attend to other municipal maintenance issues as a result.

Furthermore, the township has saved $20,000 and 520 hours per year in service overtime since the installation. Also, 28 percent of pumps from its lifting stations have been upgraded with Sulzer pumps. Over 2,500 residences in the area are now being serviced by the pumps.

"The Sulzer ABS XFP pumps have been performing exceptionally well without any problems," the customer said. "Their rag-handling ability has been exceptional, and our operators love them. We will definitely be adding more of these pumps to our system and would recommend them to others."
