Mexicali expands wastewater treatment capacity
The State Public Services Commis-sion of Mexicali awarded a US$ 22.5 million contract to the US consultancy Earth Tech for the design and construction of four new wastewater treatment plants in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.
Earth Tech will design and construct a new wastewater facility in Las Arenitas that will treat 980 litres per second (l/s). Another facility in the suburban town of Guadalupe Victoria will process 70 l/s and two smaller facilities in Estacion Coahuila and Los Algodones will each treat 20 l/s. The capacity in another facility in the suburban community of Ciudad Morelos will be increased from 20 l/s to 40 l/s.
In all, the six wastewater treatment plants will serve more than one million people in the City of Mexicali and surrounding suburbs, and treat more than 50 million gallons per day once construction is finished in late 2006. The company will operate all six plants for one year after completing construction. Earth Tech is based in Long Beach, California.
