Anglian Water Services awarded the Skanska-Aker Kvaerner Joint Venture (JV) four new projects, including the largest to date, a wastewater treatment works at Whittlesey, near Peterborough, UK. The project will replace an aging plant with a new treatment works to improve discharge quality.
Skanska, in joint venture with AK Engineering Services, part of the Aker Kvaerner Group, is one of six framework contractors working in partnership with Anglian Water on their current Asset Management Programme. Under this programme, the JV provides project management for design and construction phases with AK Engineering Services' engineering expertise for process and mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation design. Skanska Construction is providing civil and structural design and construction for the water, wastewater and sludge treatment projects.
Other awards under the framework include sewage treatment works in Stanbridgeford (US$ 7.3m), Hitchin (US$ 10m) and Canwick (US$ 4m). All four works are due for completion by the end of 2004. The total current workload in various stages of completion, ranging from development work to projects currently undergoing takeover trials, is valued at US$ 94 million.
