Northern Ireland Water fined £80,000

IRELAND, SEPT 21, 2018 -- Northern Ireland Water has been fined £80,000, BBC news reports.

Two discharges from a sewage treatment facility in Killinchy, County Down in 2017 cost the utility £60K. In 2016, a fish kill near Castlewellan killed 1,00 fish and cost the company £20K.

In response to the biggest ever fines for the publicly-owned company in Ireland, a spokesperson for NI Water said they will accept full responsibility for the incidents and have taken measures to ensure the problems which led to the fines do not occur in the future.
