LONDON, UK, DEC 27, 2018 -- Thames Water has been fined £2m and ordered to pay full costs of £79,991.57 after raw sewage polluted two Oxfordshire streams, killing more than 100 fish.
Judge Peter Ross, at Oxford Crown Court, found Thames Water to have been "reckless" for around 24 hours on August 8-9, 2015, the original date of the spill.
Judge Ross said Thames Water took "an unacceptable level of risk with the environment. It allowed the sewage pumping station to operate with no automatically available standby pump for around 10 months in the year prior to the pollution," according to local news outlets.
Thames Water pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to two charges of breaching environmental law.
