Water modeling
Mike Urban combines DHI’s 30 years of experience in water modeling with ESRI’s GIS technology. The result is a complete urban water modeling and GIS system. The concept behind the system is to have one software package for all urban water modeling activities. This allows users to maximize their productivity and fully leverage their investment in GIS and water modeling software tools. Regardless of which engine or model, all data is stored in one geodatabase. Mike Urban uses an ArcGIS™ GeoDatabase for storage of all network and catchment data, allowing users to view and edit data with ArcMap™ or any other compatible application.

Timekeeping system
Exaktime has developed JobClock.NET, a service that enables subscribers to transfer time and attendance records over the Internet from the field. The service brings added convenience to users of the company’s JobClock System who have jobsites located far from the main office. Because the attendance records can now be securely transferred on the Internet, customers no longer have to drive into the office, saving time, transportation and labor costs. Most subscribers simply use a PDA with an Internet connection to transmit time data. Data transmission is secure, and the system maintains a backup of all records on its server.

Infrastructure coordination
With aging systems requiring attention, lack of coordination among water utilities, gas utilities, highway agencies, towns and cities is very costly to the public and those managing infrastructure renewal. A web-based solution from Envista Corporation aims to help multiple project owners work together efficiently. The solution integrates three technologies: internet mapping, geospatial database capabilities, and Web 2.0 technologies. Envista stores and displays project data from multiple players to streamline water utility maintenance and simplify aging infrastructure repair and replacement. Envista enables map-driven, real-time sharing of construction and maintenance project schedules among water utilities, municipalities, highway agencies, gas and other utilities. Project leaders can view projects on a map, and see what work is planned in a specific geographic location during a particular time period, which can help water utilities troubleshoot potential conflicts.

Asset management system
The latest release of Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management will allow utilities to take advantage of out-of-thebox integration with Oracle Application Server MapViewer, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware. Oracle Application Server MapViewer displays geospatial data from a number of sources, including Oracle Database, Oracle Spatial, utilities’ GIS systems and external geospatial websites accessible through Web services. The integration will enable utilities to use the spatial query capabilities within Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management to identify assets of interest, including those associated with work orders, and then “see” these assets in a map context with a single click. This capability is important for utilities that manage widespread infrastructure assets like lines and piping.

Fixed-base AMR
Neptune’s ARB FixedBase System provides daily timesynchronized, system-wide reading from all MIUs — supporting non-revenue water and conservation initiatives while addressing off-cycle readings for high water bill complaints and move-ins/move-outs. The system offers auto-discovery over the network, allowing utilities to confirm communications and proper MIU and register operation before leaving an installation site. The system optimizes read success rates through a high-power, two-way licensed transmitter, avoiding RF collisions and interference associated with unlicensed bands. The long-range, secure RF link between the transmitters and collectors reduces collector infrastructure, lowering total deployment costs.

Wireless water nodes
EkaNet Water Nodes are battery-powered wireless endpoints for encoder-based and pulse-generating water meters. Water Nodes wirelessly link to a nearby EkaNet Electric Meter Node that is part of a fixed EkaNet AMI network. Once connected to an Electric Meter Node, a Water Node extends two-way communications to the water meter, incorporating water applications into the overall EkaNet AMI solution. EKA-1600 Nodes allow utilities to configure and modify a water meter’s read and report intervals during installation and any time thereafter. Alarms and leak detection flags are also read from encoders and transmitted. Supporting both residential and C&I applications, EkaNet Water Nodes are suitable for new deployments as well as retrofits.
