LONDON, UK, June 7, 2011 -- Companies and Markets is predicting increased growth in power generation from wastewater sludge due to rising sludge generation and employment of more efficient sludge management techniques.
In 2010, power generation from sludge reached 2,939 GWh, up from 2,610 GWh in 2005 (CAGR 2.4%). By 2020, the report predicts, power generation will reach 3,845 GWh, up from 3,020 GWh in 2011.
According to the report, better sludge management techniques will increase the energy recovery from sludge. In addition, investment in power generation from sludge will become more attractive as a result of rising energy prices in the international market.
Germany has emerged as a leader in this area, accounting for almost 35% of the sludge-generated power around the globe. The report suggests this trend will continue through 2020.
