GREENSBORO, NC, Dec. 3, 2008 -- Less than two months after announcing the United States market introduction of its MÓNASHELL™ odor control treatment solution, Bord na Móna Environmental Products U.S. Inc. announced today that its parent company had been awarded contracts to install nearly $2.5-million in odor control treatment solutions in Italy and the United Kingdom.
"Odor emitted from wastewater treatment processes is increasingly a concern as populations grow and housing encroaches upon once-remote treatment facilities," Keaney said today. "Bord na Móna's biological systems for odor and VOC treatment have set the standard for performance and environmental sustainability since 1995 when the technology was first deployed in systems throughout Europe. These new contracts being announced today reinforce the success of the technology in treating odors emitted from wastewater & composting processes and VOC's from industrial facilities."
Having recently completed a fourth installation in Rome with a contract value of $1.5 million, Bord na Móna are now treating a million cubic meters per hour of air in four Wastewater Treatment Plants in Rome. The United Kingdom contract was awarded by British Steel to provide air-cleaning systems for solvent emissions from the company's painting plants. Other international projects of note in the last year include an installation on a large pumping station (Northpoint) in Hong Kong, a large MÓNASHELL installation in Barcelona, Spain and a number of installations with SIAAP, the body responsible for operating wastewater treatment plants in France who have successfully trialled the technology over the past number of years at their Achères and Noissy le Grande sites in Paris. Other large contracts in Paris are currently in the pipeline.
According to Keaney, the company's biological odor control systems, featuring either crushed peat or seashells, is designed to deliver significant, environmentally responsible benefits for wastewater pumping stations, wastewater treatment works, sludge-handling and treatment processors, municipal solid waste and composting centers, as well as VOC reduction at various industrial facilities.
The entire range of Bord na Móna water, wastewater, and odor control system solutions will soon be showcased at a new million dollar Bord na Mona Innovation Center being built adjacent to the Greensboro, North Carolina municipal wastewater treatment facility. "This Center will showcase our full range of technologies, allow for third-party verification, and enable increased research, development and optimization of new water reuse, wastewater, and odor technologies."
Recently, at the 2008 WEFTEC Conference in Chicago, Bord na Móna introduced three state-of-the-art decentralized wastewater treatment solutions and the revolutionary odor control solution that features seashells as the filtration media. "Our new PuraM® Membrane Bioreactor, PuraMAX® Moving Bed Biological Reactor, and PuraSAF® Submerged Aerated Filter wastewater treatment solutions and MÓNASHELL® Enhanced Biofiltration odor control technology are now available in the North American market. In addition to reducing wastewater and air pollution each product exhibits environmental benefits including reduction in energy and chemical demand, incorporation of recycled materials and water conservation."
Headquartered in Dublin Ireland, Bord na Móna is a multi-national $550-million full line provider of products and services in the environmental, energy, fuels, and horticulture markets. Bord na Móna Environmental Products U.S. Inc. is headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina.
