April 8, 2008 -- Further bolstering its strong reputation in the water sector, the Stockton-on-Tees office of international project management and cost consultants, Faithful+Gould has been awarded a key role on Northumbrian Water Ltd's (NWL) £28 million project to extend its Regional Sludge Treatment Centre (RSTC) at Bran Sands.

Having been appointed to NWL's five year capital maintenance framework in 2005, Faithful+Gould's team, led by water expert Sean Lynch, scooped this latest contract which has further established its role as the preferred cost consultant on the Bran Sands site. This latest deal boosts the significant portfolio of work attained locally in the past year and adds to an impressive national portfolio totalling in the order of £10 million.

Following a strategic review of its sludge strategy, which included the Bran Sands site, NWL has concluded that its sludge treatment processes at the RSTC are energy intensive and has a high maintenance requirement. A major investment to improve the RSTC is being undertaken to minimise whole life plant costs, whilst producing an enhanced, treated product suitable for disposal.

The project, taking place at the Bran Sands site in Teesside, will involve Faithful+Gould's supporting and assisting the Engineering Construction Contract (ECC) project manager, preparing monthly cost reports and assisting NWL in the management of risk.

Lisa Patton, senior quantity surveyor for Faithful+Gould, said: "Faithful+Gould has a longstanding relationship with the Bran Sands site, having been involved in its construction ten years ago and this project further establishes us as leading the field in the delivery of high profile water projects.

"As a valued and longstanding client, we are keen to ensure that we deliver a high value service to NWL by ensuring co-location, team integration and the provision of highly experienced staff to the project. Additionally, the contract will present some challenges to our team in terms of works needing to be procured and executed, whilst maintaining operational capacity of the facility which involves daily liaison with the project team and NWL's operational personnel."

Donna Rawlinson, NWL project manager, said: "This contract was awarded in recognition of Faithful+Gould's performance and service delivery on the Bran Sands capital maintenance contract and we are delighted that Faithful+Gould is playing such a significant part in such a large capital investment programme."

Programmed works are due to complete in June 2009, with site works having commenced in October 2007.

Other professional firms working on the project are:
• Design and construction contractor: Aker Kvaerner Engineering Services
• ECC project manager and supervisor (with technical support): MWH
• CDM co-ordinator (with technical support): Entec UK

Faithful+Gould is a member of the Atkins Group of companies and is one of the world's largest project and cost management consultancies.
