KANSAS CITY, KS, Dec. 4, 2009 -- EPA has awarded $291,000 to Great Bend, Kan., for improvements to its existing sanitary sewer system.
EPA Region 7 Acting Regional Administrator William Rice said, "EPA is proud to award these water infrastructure funds to protect water quality and extend the useful life of the existing sewer system."
The city of Great Bend has been working to upgrade the older, existing sanitary sewer pipes and manholes to restore the capacity of the system. The grant will help rehabilitate or replace approximately 13,775 feet of sewer and 27 manholes.
EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands of our limited water resources. EPA remains committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for managing and financing infrastructure with public and private partners.
