City awarded $500K grant for new wastewater system

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, Feb. 3, 2009 -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced the city of Milan has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The city will use the funds for the construction of a wastewater treatment facility in Sullivan County.

The grant funds come from a $50 million bond sale in November of 2007, which funded the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements. The funds will be used in conjunction with loan funds from the Department of Natural Resources. The project is estimated to cost $3,653,250.

The Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds.
