Russia: The St. Petersburg water company Vodokanal awarded Veolia Water, the water division of Paris-based Veolia Environnement (VE), a contract to build a sludge treatment plant for the North St. Petersburg wastewater treatment plant. The facility will employ VE advanced technologies in three incinerators, including flue gas treatment that complies with European standards and a co-generation system.

Revenue from the contract totals ¤52 million for VE, out of a total amount of ¤70 million for the entire plant, which will be commissioned in 2006.

Russia: The German water supplier WTE Wassertechnik GmbH, a company of EVN of Austria, selected Degrémont to construct the ultrafiltration unit as part of the South West Moscow drinking water plant. Designed to provide water to one million persons starting on 1 January 2007, the plant will be built under a build, operate, own and transfer (BOOT) contract, which means the plant will be owned by WTE during the construction and operation period. Plant ownership will go gradually to Moscow municipality-owned water utility Mosvodokanal ten years after completion. One of the biggest in the world by its treatment capacity, the ultrafiltration unit will be equipped with 56 racks and 1,344 Ultrazur 450 modules to deliver every day up to 275,000 m3 of ultrafiltered water.

Sweden: By autumn 2004, Cardo Pump will implement its plans to concentrate marketing activities into one sales channel and brand, moving sales resources closer to customers in a new region-based, global organisation. All ABS and Pumpex sales and marketing will be under the brand name ABS. A new sales unit will be established to focus on customers in the pulp and paper industry.

Cardo Pump is one of Europe's largest manufacturers of pumps, mixers, aerators, compressors and control and monitoring equipment for water and wastewater, industry and building services. Products have been sold through two parallel organisations under the brands ABS and Pumpex. Merging the two brands will result in cost savings and higher efficiency, according to Peter Aru, head of the Pump field since January 2004.

UK: Ionics, Incorporated completed the acquisition of Ecolochem, Inc. and its affiliated companies for US$ 219 million in cash and 4.65 million shares of Ionics common stock on 19 February 2004. Ecolochem, Inc., a privately held US company with headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, provides emergency, short- and long-term mobile water treatment services to the power, petrochemical and other industries. This acquisition increases Ionics' ability to provide outsourced water services.

The Ionics' company Ecolochem International Ltd., based in Peterborough, UK, provides commissioning services to provide a rapid supply of high-quality water for power applications, including start-up, steam blow, chemical clean, hydro testing, pipe cleaning, condenser cleaning and boiler flush and fill. The company uses a worldwide fleet of mobile equipment, which is used to support critical power plant emergencies.
