SAN JOSE, CA, Aug. 8, 2014 -- In July, the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) recognized the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility with a Gold Peak Performance Award, which acknowledged the facility's 100-percent compliance with federal permit requirements in 2013.
NACWA's Peak Performance Program recognizes member agencies for outstanding compliance with their permits under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). This is the 12th Peak Performance Award received by the Regional Wastewater Facility.
"We are proud that our efforts are protecting community health, safeguarding habitat, helping to restore the water quality of the Bay, and ensuring the foundation of our local economy," said Kerrie Romanow, San José Environmental Services Department director.
"We are also working to ensure continued compliance in future years through our capital improvement program that is rebuilding our aging wastewater facility with modern, cost-effective technologies." The facility is slated for approximately $1 billion in capital improvements over the next 15 years.

The San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility is the largest advanced wastewater treatment facility in the western United States.
