CHICAGO, IL, April 4, 2014 -- On June 25–26, 2014, the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) will host a Water Reuse Workshop in Chicago for plumbing industry stakeholders interested in helping shape the future of water reuse standards in the United States and internationally.

The goal of the workshop is to gain input on two of ASPE's water reuse standards: ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI 63-2013: Rainwater Catchment Systems, which was published last year and will be undergoing a revision soon, and ASPE/ARCSA 78: Stormwater Harvesting Systems for Direct and Indirect End-Use Applications, which is under development.

In addition, the workshop will discuss the activities of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO Technical Committee 282: Water Reuse. The U.S. TAG, for which ASPE is the administrator, is involved in activities related to the development of international standards on the use of treated wastewater for irrigation, the reuse of water in urban areas, and potentially the use of water reclaimed from mining operations.

Representatives from the co-developer of the two U.S. standards under discussion, the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA), as well as those from the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA) will be participating in the workshop.

Engineers, manufacturers, government personnel, code officials, standards developers, and other stakeholders are invited to join ASPE in Chicago for the event. The results of the workshop will be used to help develop U.S. positions on the reuse of water and will help guide the consensus bodies on the revision of ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI 63-2013 and the development of ASPE/ARCSA 78. Those who want to provide input on the development of water reuse standards such as these are encouraged to attend.

The free workshop will be held near O'Hare Airport in Chicago and will run from approximately 1 p.m. CDT on June 25 through 3 p.m. CDT on June 26. For more information, visit aspe.org/Water_Reuse_Workshop.
