Waltham Technologies CEO Una Ryan.WALTHAM, MA, Nov. 17, 2009 -- Waltham Technologies, a Massachusetts company focused on natural, innovative methods to produce clean water for people and companies around the world, announced today that Una Ryan, Ph.D., O.B.E., the Company's CEO, has been named the 2009 Cartier Women's Initiative Award laureate for North America. The Award recognizes Ryan's work to develop a more environmentally friendly, cost-efficient process to clean wastewater for reuse. The Cartier Women's Initiative Award is an international business plan competition to identify, support and encourage projects by women entrepreneurs.

"There is nothing more fundamental and important than access to clean water -- our planet's most important resource. I am thrilled that the work we're carrying out at Waltham Technologies has been recognized by the Cartier Women's Initiative Award and applaud their support of entrepreneurial ventures dedicated to positive, sustainable social change," said Dr. Ryan. "A sustainable, profitable solution for cleaning wastewater will facilitate water re-use, decrease energy consumption in industry and, in the long term, provide a much-needed source of clean water in developing countries."

The Waltham Technologies system dramatically reduces the cost of wastewater treatment and is easily implemented. Initial applications provide benefits and revenues to the beverage, food and textile industries in the developed world. Future developments are expected to provide far reaching benefits for military needs and in emerging markets.

Dr. Ryan has previous experience at Monsanto Company and T Cell Sciences.
