WARRENDALE, PA, June 17, 2010 -- Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Inc. has recently received orders for ozone systems to be used in water and sewage treatment plants. The orders are comprised of ozone generators and their supporting system components.

Mitsubishi Electric will install two ozone units at the U.S. Marine Corps' Air Station in Cherry Point, NC to treat drinking water. The units have a combined capacity of 600 pounds per day (ppd). The city of Springfield, Mo. has ordered two ozone units with a combined capacity of 5,600 ppd to treat wastewater before discharge into a river. And the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department has ordered a 150 ppd system for its Possum Kingdom Fish Hatchery in north Texas.

"Ozone is a highly efficient, environmentally friendly way to treat water," said Bob Kim, general manager of Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Ozone Systems Division. "Ozone disinfects, deodorizes, decolorizes and removes organic matter without chemicals. It has a far stronger oxidizing power than chlorine, and becomes harmless oxygen after the process."

Mitsubishi Electric's ozone systems feature small-diameter glass dielectrics to save space, and high ozone generating capacity per electrode, which also reduces power and oxygen consumption.

In North America, ozone is increasingly becoming the choice of municipalities and large industry for drinking water and wastewater treatment. Mitsubishi Electric began its ozone system business in 1968, and since entering the North American market in 2004 has installed systems in 10 locations.
