PROVIDENCE, RI, Oct. 25, 2010 -- bioprocessH2O and Norit X-Flow announced a finalized agreement that gives bioprocessH2O the right to sell Norit's Airlift™ tubular and hollow fiber ultrafiltration (UF) membrane technologies in the North American municipal wastewater market. The bioprocessH2O membrane product offerings include bioFLOW™, bioPULSE™ and bioTriPURE™ external membrane systems with 'inside-out' flow patterns. The advantages of the membrane systems are: lower capital equipment costs, systems that can be installed on slab at grade level, reduced power consumption, enhanced flux rates, and ease of operation.

"The vast experience of the bioprocessH2O management team and the innovation of the Norit external tubular membrane systems is a winning combination to provide the Safe-Smart solution incorporating our vision of 'Right Water-Right Solution' for any given application," said Tim Burns, President and CEO of bioprocessH2O.

"We are looking forward to a very successful and prosperous relationship with bioprocessH2O in the municipal wastewater market," added Jim Carroll, Norit X-Flow's Director of Sales -- Wastewater for the North America market.

The bioPULSE™ Airlift™ MBR technology has the ability to eliminate the complex civil structures associated with immersed MBR systems' filtration tanks, hoists and cranes. High levels of health and safety are met by eliminating the treatment system operator's contact with the mixed liquor wastewater biology and confined space entry with the installation of the compact, vertically configured membrane systems on an equipment slab next to the aeration basins. Pre-screening has been relaxed to 2 mm since the systems have a patented automated drain feature to flush the inlet surface of the membranes and remove any buildup of foreign debris. This makes the retrofit and upgrade of an existing treatment system much more attractive. Considering the fact that the overall power consumption is less than that of an immersed MBR system, the decision to purchase an external tubular membrane system is now an easier choice to make for any wastewater treatment facility.

The bioTriPURE™ Ultrafiltration Systems incorporate the Norit Aquaflex hollow fiber UF membranes that have an inside-out flow pattern for tertiary filtration and water reuse applications. The bioTriPURE™ UF Systems can effectively process secondary wastewater streams for water reuse and provision of a high quality feed stream to a reverse osmosis system with turbidity levels of less than 0.2 NTU and SDIs of less than 3. The inside-out flow pattern of the bioTriPURE™ UF System allows the controlled addition of a coagulant aide without 'sludge packing' of the module housing.
