DALLAS, TX, March 30, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Thomas E. Ferguson, vice president of Flowserve Corp. and president of Flowserve Pumps, has been appointed to the 2005-2006 board of directors of the Hydraulic Institute, an organization noted for its 88-year legacy of creating standards for the pump industry. Ferguson will assume the role of vice president of member services for the Institute.

In this role, Ferguson serves as an officer of the Institute and oversees all non-technical committees and affairs. He will assist committees such as marketing, membership, statistics, program planning, education and market transformation and provide oversight to activities that provide forums for the exchange of industry information to member companies. Additionally, he will help integrate policy recommendations, serve as financial liaison and support the strategic planning process of the Institute.

As part of his education and market transformation committee involvement, Ferguson will play an active role in the Hydraulic Institute's new National Pump Systems Educational and Market Transformation Initiative called "Pump Systems Matter"(TM). The primary goal of this educational initiative, for which Flowserve Corp. serves as a charter sponsor, is to transform the market for pump systems and services to one based on system life cycle costs rather than equipment first costs -- with an important focus on energy-savings opportunities.

Ferguson's member services duties will also include representing the Institute in Moscow at the May meeting of EUROPUMP, an organization of 17 pump associations in Europe. The Hydraulics Institute and EUROPUMP jointly work on projects that affect both pump manufacturers and end users across the globe.

Former president of Flowserve Flow Solutions, Ferguson has held key managerial positions in the marketing and technology of pumps and mechanical seals, including serving as the director of EMA marketing in The Hague, Netherlands. Ferguson holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial distribution and technology from Texas A&M University. He also attended the University of Southern California Executive Management Program.

Flowserve Corp. (www.flowserve.com) is one of the world's leading providers of fluid motion and control products and services. Operating in 56 countries, the company produces engineered and industrial pumps, seals and valves as well as a range of related flow management services.
